Desire

The man from Bad Bergzabern has already shown with his debut album „Down in The Delta“ (2005) and the fantastic „Travellin'“ (2007) that his exceptionally good songwriting, paired with his excellent, sometimes „dirty“ and sometimes beautifully (2007) showed that his exceptionally good songwriting, coupled with his excellent, sometimes „dirty“ sometimes beautifully, performed guitar playing far beyond the standard mush of local string pluckers and made a name for himself in the „blues scene“.

With „Desire“ he has now put down his masterpiece !!!!

Review:

Third opus of this bluesman from the other side of the Rhine, ‚Desire‘ confirms all the talent of singer-guitarist of the Germanic playboy, but also and especially that Timo Gross is a very good author-composer. As a proof, the 12 titles proposed on this album and between which come to interpose two superb covers: ‚American Steel‘ and ‚Some Kind Of Wonderful‘. It starts cool and calm, with the song which gave its title to the album, ‚Desire‘, on a background of Resonator splitting on electric guitar chords, before going up a notch on ‚Driven Soul‘ where the six strings become sharper. The rhythmic is punchy and restrained at the same time, assured by a great Michael Siegwart on drums and percussion, and the no less excellent Frowin Ickler on bass and double bass. With ‚Vodoo Priest‘ the handsome Timo makes you understand that things are getting more than serious, sending you a hard-hitting blues from behind the scenes on which Silke Hauck’s voice in the backing vocals will make you turn up the volume because, yes, (‚ya‘, as they say across the Rhine), this is big sound you’re getting here. My personal favorite is the excellent song ‚Sweet Love‘, with a great Markus Lauer on the Hammond organ and a discreet but brilliant Alex Mathias on the piano, both of whom highlight Timo’s guitar playing, both acoustic and electric. And since all this is offered to you on a slow blues that could make thousands of candles shine and on words of love that come from the heart, that’s why I love it. Howlin‘ Diabolo‘ and its horns will make you dive back into this dark and bewitching blues in which Timo and his ‚Vodoo Priest‘ already drew you in at the beginning of the album before ‚Scary Love‘ opens the door to a superb cover of ‚American Steel‘ on which it is this time Sandra Vilkovic on the chorus who will make you vibrate before the razor-sharp guitar solo. A sharp guitar that offers you on ‚World On Fire‘ an intro that will delight all the pimply boys who want to seduce their classmates with their six strings, before launching the second cover of this opus, ‚Some Kind Of Wonderful‘ and putting you on the right road, that of ‚Northbound‘. And as the last track on the album says, ‚Here Comes The Blues‘, a blues that Timo serves up with joy of playing and warmth of heart. „Bluesmagazine, France“
