BLUES INGERMANY

a living tradition

Blues has a long history in Germany. Since the 1960s, it has found a loyal fan base here—in clubs, at festivals, and on the big stages. Small pubs gave rise to a scene that is still alive today: passionate, authentic, and deeply rooted in culture.

From the first blues pioneers to legendary festivals to a new generation of musicians, blues in Germany combines tradition with the present. Guitarists and singers such as Timo Gross, Henrik Freischlader, Abi Wallenstein, and the Bluesanovas show that blues is not only played in this country, but also lived.

As one of Germany’s leading blues guitarists, Timo Gross has been shaping the scene for two decades.

In addition to his guitar playing, he is known as a distinctive blues singer from Germany.

BLUES MADE IN GERMANY

the book

The book documents the diversity of the German Blues scene – from its beginnings to the present day.

The illustrated book “Blues Made in Germany” is the first work to comprehensively document the German blues scene. In interviews, 16 outstanding musicians talk about their careers, their inspirations, and unforgettable moments on and behind the stage.

The book is richly illustrated, with some previously unpublished photos. It offers a unique insight into more than 50 years of German blues history – from its beginnings to the present day.

The musicians‘ stories form an exciting kaleidoscope of live music from the last 50 years and the legendary clubs, pubs, and festivals that continue to celebrate the blues in Germany to this day. Through the lens of music, it tells a piece of the life and social history of our country in both West and East.

TIMO GROSS

German blues guitarist & singer

One of the book’s protagonists is Timo Gross. For more than two decades he has shaped the German blues as a guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer. His debut Down to the Delta was praised by the music press; releases like Fallen from Grace and Devils Class cemented his reputation.

His style blends earthy guitar riffs with a distinctive voice that tells stories – sometimes rough, sometimes gentle, always full of feeling. Rather than imitate, Timo Gross evolves the blues with his own signature.

As one of the leading German blues guitarists, he has been shaping the scene for years, and he is also known as a distinctive German blues singer.
